It depends on what you’re making and the fabric width, but here are sensible starting points for hand block print cotton. Always defer to your pattern’s stated requirements — these are guides, not gospel.
Clothing
- Simple dress: roughly 2.5–3 metres.
- Skirt: roughly 1.5–2 metres.
- Blouse / top: roughly 1.5–2 metres.

Home
- Curtains: measure the drop, add hem + heading allowance, and multiply the width by 1.5–2× for fullness.
- Cushion covers: about 0.5 metre per standard cushion.
- Table linens: measure your table plus the overhang you want.

A note on width
Our cotton runs approximately 42–44 inches wide depending on the design — the exact width is on each fabric’s product page, so factor that into your maths. Need a specific length or a custom run? See custom fabric.
